Gasless Mig Welding

Thanks for joining us again for part three of our welding series. We are looking at all things welding and trying to get you all up to speed. When it comes to welding, you may well be surprised to learn that the ways are many and varied as are the machines available to do the job. Which machine or type of welding you chose should depend on the job at hand.

If you are looking to weld mild steel with a machine that is simple and easy to use, you cant really go past a gasless MIG welder. The gasless MIG welder works by utilizing a continuously fed wire to produce the molten material (similar to a MIG welder) however does not use gas as a flux. Instead it relies on a flux coated electrode (as is the case with ARC welding) to stabilize the mixture.

The gasless component makes it ideal if you are welding outside in windy conditions and it will very easily weld thin sheets and mild steel. It does however have some limitations in that it will only weld mild steel and it does require some cleaning.

The upside is definitely seen in its simplicity and uncomplicated operation. This makes it extremely easy to learn, especially if you are new to welding. If you are looking for a starter unit then the gasless MIG welder may be exactly what you are looking for and its fairly inexpensive price tag is likely to leave you smiling too.
