Gallery Delighted To Display Rolf Harris Prints

A Suffolk art gallery has expressed their joy at hosting the latest exhibition by Rolf Harris, reports the Eastern Daily Press.

Southwold Gallery will act as the home for the A Life In Art exhibition which celebrates the Australian's 65 year career and features Rolf Harris prints, originals, sculptures and a retrospective book.

Gallery owner Karen Keable said that she was delighted to host the exhibition of Rolf Harris prints due to the Australian's status as one of Britain's most loved artists and entertainers.

She told the newspaper: "Obviously we are very proud to have secured the national tour exhibition of Rolf Harris, especially as Rolf is such a national treasure."

Mrs Keable revealed to the publication that she started work on bringing Rolf to the gallery as soon as she learned he was embarking on a national tour in honour of his 80th birthday.

She added: "When we heard about Rolf's national exhibition, we immediately approached the organisers to see if there was any possibility of Southwold Gallery being involved."

Rolf Harris is responsible for several paintings such as Blue Elvis, showing the King of Rock and Roll performing on stage, and Durham Cathedral, depicting the northern church, but some British schoolchildren have confused him with Leonardo da Vinci.

Research carried out to mark the launch of the What on Earth? Wallbook found that one in ten UK children believe Rolf Harris painted the Mona Lisa, which is on display at the Musée du Louvre in Paris.

The schoolchildren may have been influenced by their parents as Rolf came top of a poll which asked 1,000 visitors to the London ArtMart exhibition to name the most famous artist in the world.

An amazing 38 per cent of respondents said that Rolf Harris was the most famous artist and the Australian managed to beat Romantic English painter John Constable who came second with 23 per cent, while Dutch master Rembrant did not even place.

The survey was carried out in 1992 but it appears that Rolf's public popularity is as strong as ever as his slot at Glastonbury has been nominated for the Virtual Festival Critics' Choice at the annual UK Festival Awards.

Rolf Harris is set to get his wobble board out once again as it was announced that the antipodean will star in this year's Rock With Laughter at the NEC alongside celebrities such as Lenny Henry, Beverley Knight and Alan Carr.
