Bees are probably some of the most misunderstood and under-appreciated creatures on the planet today. When people think of bees they usually think about bee stings and allergies. What many people fail to realize is how bees have also positively affected human life throughout the decades.
Honey is the major product that comes from bees. Worker bees travel great distances and visit thousands of flowers in order to get enough nectar to bring back to the hive and turn into honey. In the process of gathering nectar, bees move from flower to flower, which helps in the process of pollination. This ensures that the plants are able to reproduce asexually.
Another important bee byproduct is beeswax. Beeswax can be found in many cosmetic products such as lip balm or skin cream. It can also be used to make candles, polishing materials such as floor polish and shoe polish and even as a coating for cheese in order to protect the cheese as it ages.
One particular type of bee product is mono-floral honey. This type of honey has a higher value in the market because it is made mainly from the nectar of a particular flower type. Different flowers produce different nectars, which gives each type of mono-floral honey a uniquely distinctive taste and texture. An example of mono-floral honey is the
raw orange blossom honey.
Raw orange blossom honey is honey which is produced from a mixture of citrus nectars. It is thick, very sweet honey that has a very strong aroma. Its color varies from light amber to white. The lighter color and milder flavor is made during times when there is a large harvest of honey, and the honey is contaminated by other nectars.
Honey can also be whipped in order to minimize crystallization, which occurs in raw honey after some time. Whipped honey is also referred to as creamed honey, and it has a smoother consistency which makes it easier to spread over breads and pancakes. Creamed honey differs from raw creamed honey in the sense that
raw creamed honey does not undergo any heating or filtering process.
