Gulmarg: Much More Than A Ski Adventure

Gulmarg the meadow of flowers welcomes tourists with its scenic beauty and undiluted charm. The hill resort with magical meadows, snow-clad peaks and the exquisite panorama have set locale for several Bollywood movies. The steep slopes make it Asia's only heli-skiing resort. British discovered the hill resort of Gulmarg in 1927 during their colonial rule in India. Gulmarg is situated in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir with an incredible altitude of 2730 meters above sea level. It has a gently sloping landscape. It is located at about 57 km from southwest of capital of Srinagar and indo-pak border lies nearby.

The dazzling hill station of Gulmarg is sprinkled with amazing sites attracting the tourists. Khilanmarg, the spot for skiing in winters is also a place to enjoy the magnificence of the Kashmir valley and the Himalayan range.

Alpather Lake, a pictorial alpine lake that remains frozen until late June. From Khilanmarg the lake places across the Apharwat peak. Travelers must take the one-day and thirteen km trip to the Alpather Lake from Gulmarg.

Gulmarg place to be for adventure seekers
For the adventure freaks Gulmarg is the eventual destination for skiing. You may simply lease the skis and sticks, snow boots, woolen socks, mufflers, windproof jackets, goggles, and caps. The skiing season here starts from November till February. The varying slopes in between 8,700 and 10,500 feet make the ski runs the highest in India. If you are not much of a ski expert, you can still enjoy with the ski lifts and the chair lifts.

Gulmarg also possess a lovely green golf course that claims to be the worlds highest too.

Gulmarg also present you with some outstanding opportunities for long walks. You can take up the outer circle walk where pine forests and wonderful vistas are what u enjoy the most. The beauty of the Kashmir valley will surely mesmerize you. Nanga Parbat and the Haramukh are other places to explore.
