Funky Radiators - How To Choose The Right One

By:

In the past radiators haven't generally been perceived as ornamental features that scream individuality and personality. However, modern designers have sculpted radiators that are considerably more than measly heat outlets. With such designer radiators available on the market, the out-dated, white vertical bar radiators are no longer being masked by radiator covers. In fact, high-gloss chrome radiators in designs that turn heads have now been introduced into homes. Allowing homeowners to display radiators that they are proud of and which adhere to the theme of their room.

Break the rules

Who determines what shape a heating device has to be manufactured in? Design was lost on radiators decades ago and "funky radiators" were two words you wouldn't hear in combination unless referring to a dodgy radiator. Nowadays, conventional white radiators have been left behind along with flares and platforms. Funky radiators now refer to designs which disregard old fashioned conventions and bring an artistic edge to a room along with warmth and comfort.

How to choose a funky design

Funkiness isn't a set term which refers to a particular design of radiator. It refers to radiators which oppose traditional design concepts. Typically funky radiators may have the following qualities:

Wall mounted - Traditionally, heating devices were floor standing. Particularly electric radiators, which also came accompanied with a wire which would stretch across the room, further hindering a room's appearance. Wall mounted radiators are modern in the sense that they are space savers - allowing for more floor space.

Original designs - Abolish the vertical elements and swap for a non-conventional design that will attract attention. If you're aiming for a totally unique and funky appearance choose a design which you've never seen anywhere before. Those who dare to be different in their interior design have a more unique home.

To contrast or to complement?

The big question when choosing a designer radiator for a room is whether the radiator should contrast the rest of the room or complement in both aspects of design and finish. Although there is no right or wrong answer, the room itself should answer the question. If the room is in need of a "look at me" lift that rids it of its mundane tag, a designer radiator with a funky twist could be just the answer.

Some funky radiators can complement a room yet still boast originality. If the room has a lot of chrome already a chrome-finish radiator will complement the room whilst still offering modern qualities.
