Fun Things To Do In The Big Apple

By:

People head to New York City all year-round for business, vacations and shopping trips. The city is exciting and filled with life, so it is no wonder how popular it is. There is plenty to do whether you are in town for a night or an entire week. The biggest challenge people face is fitting in everything they want to do in a short period of time. The trick is to plan ahead and prioritize what you want to do. You may not be able to get to it all, so pick what you most want to see and do and then save the rest for your next visit. There are some must-do activities for when you are in New York, especially if it is your first time. While those experiencing painful problems like a bunion or plantar wart may leave them feeling less than ready to see all of New York, you can experience all of the fun stuff with a pair of comfortable walking shoes and a plan.

If you are heading to New York, plan a trip to Ellis Island to visit the Statue of Liberty. Lady Liberty was the first thing many newcomers to New York saw when they arrived. She rises above the water, overlooking the harbor. Now you can visit her by taking a ferry to the island. There you will find stories about how the country was built and photos documenting years of immigration. Learn about these brave people who set out to start a new life of freedom in America by visiting Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty while in town.

Even those who are not usually fans of theater will love seeing a Broadway show while in town. Many performers dream of being in Broadway productions and for good reason. Broadway shows are bigger and more exciting than shows you will find anywhere else. For a great evening out in New York, grab dinner in the theater district and enjoy a New York production of your favorite show.

If you are in town during the summer months, be sure to catch a Yankees or Mets game. Both baseball teams have newer stadiums and visiting is a must for baseball fans. The Yankees play in the Bronx and the Mets are located in nearby Flushing Meadows. Both can be reached by public transportation for a very reasonable fee.

A final must-do for visitors to New York is to go shopping on Fifth Avenue. You can just browse and window shop or you can save up and spend a good portion of your vacation budget on the shopping. Christmas is an especially good time to visit the city because Fifth Avenue is decorated for the holiday. The store windows all feature great holiday displays, many with mechanical animation the kids will love. If you arrive in town on Thanksgiving Day, be sure to check out the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, the official kick off to the holiday season in the Big Apple.
