Ironically it is those who are struggling with obesity that realize the importance of following a healthy diet in terms of disease prevention. Because of their increased risk for heart diseases and diabetes, overweight people become more aware that what they eat and what they fail to eat can greatly affect their blood pressure in particular and their overall health in general.

The main reason why people who go on a fad commercial diets fail over and over again is because they overlook the basic weight loss principle that to lose weight, the body needs to burn more calories than it takes in. On the other hand, eat more foods which are rich in potassium magnesium and dietary fibers such as bananas, apples, grapes, grapefruit, apricots, strawberries, broccoli, carrots, lima beans, spinach, green beans, tomatoes and many others.

One of the easiest ways to incorporate all these fruits and vegetables into your daily diet is by using them as ingredients in your smoothies. These great tasting concoctions will supply you with your daily recommended dietary requirements of nutrients and minerals in just one glass.
