Frugal Home Interior Perk Ups

By:

It really doesn't take much to give any room a new look. Here are 6 simple and frugal suggestions to get you started.

Carpets: It may be a simple carpet shampooing is in order. And believe it or not, with today's economy, hiring a professional could be the most frugal way to go. Let them do the work while you spend a few hours away from home. Request a dry shampoo job that does an outstanding job and could be dry before you get home.

If the condition of your carpet is to the extreme, what's underneath? Maybe there is a hard wood that would love to see the light of day.

Bathroom Tiles: Clean off old grout with bleach or if they need more extreme attention, scrape out the old grout with a screwdriver and replace with some brand new white. It's amazing what this simple grout attention will make to your bathroom's appearance.

Floors: A linoleum or tile floor can build up with wax and grime causing your floor to look dingy and flat. To remove this build-up mix 2 tablespoons of dish washing machine detergent in 2 gallons of warm water. With a little elbow grease applied scrubbing, your floors will be restored to a fresh look. Dish washing detergent contains trisodium phosphate which is a strong, non bubbling cleaner, that will need to be rinsed off thoroughly.

Paint: There is no better way to freshen a room then with a new paint treatment. When it comes to house interior design, anything can get a facelift with a new coat of paint. Walls, furniture, tiles, glass, rugs and even floors can be painted to change the mood, create a new accent or simply give anything a spring cleaned "pop".

If painting is too much of a project at the moment - try washing everything from ceiling to floor. They ill look, and you will feel better just from this simple act of cleaning. Use TSP on the walls for best results. You can purchase this at any home improvement store. Don't be afraid to take on that fireplace mantel!

Trim and Woodwork: These are most often overlooked when it comes to dusting and cleaning. Start by dusting each one and then evaluating what they might need. Painting trim is a great way to perk up tired looking railings and and window sills. Prepare the surface with a light sanding before painting.

Accents: Slipcovers, pillow covers, lamp shades, throw blankets and simple window treatment changes can also do wonders in a tired or now boring room. Fabrics are surprisingly frugally priced and will provide unlimited options to choose from. Sew, tack, tuck or glue to brighten up any room.
