Frinton-on-sea Essex

Among other small seaside English towns that still keep the flavor of the old times, Frinton-On-Sea is such a wonderful place. Part of the Frinton and Walton parish, and located in the Tendring District of Essex, Frinton-On-Sea has a rich history that seems to be rising above the ground each time a visitor steps foot here.

While Frinton-On-Sea used to comprise some small cottages, a couple of farms and a church back in Victorian times, the 1890s brought some important changes in the nature of the town. The land was bought by R. Powell Cooper and started to realize some important alterations, such as the appearance of a golf course and the prohibition of any pubs and public houses. As for the unstable grounds located near the sea and on the cliffs, a special Sea Defense Act 1903 managed to resolve this issue by undergoing a cliff-stabilization process. There were other important changes that transformed Frinton-On-Sea into an extremely tourist- and visitor-friendly location in the 20th century. For instance, the birth of a lido that featured shops and palm trees, high class hotels located along the Esplanade, a golf club where the Prince of Wales used to play golf or the tennis tournament that was held there and which could only be topped by Wimbledon are just some of the exquisite features of the town. All of these things attracted a lot of high-class visitors and made Frinton-On-Sea the last target that was attacked by the Luftwaffe back in 1944.

The year of 2000 has brought the first pub to Frinton-On-Sea; the Lock and Barrell pub plus the seafront hotel bars or the bars at the War Memorial clubs are one of the main attractions todays tourists can enjoy at their fullest. Despite of the original conservatory nature that characterized Frinton-On-Sea up until 2005, things have changed a bit and the presence of all of these attractions is the living proof of the change that took place.

The small, seaside town is located near Walton-on-the-Naze in the north, Kirby Cross and Kirby-Le-Soken. There are plenty of roads and railway stations that commuters and tourists can use to get to Frinton-On-Sea and into the neighboring towns. As for the beach itself, it is more than a mile long and it features a special sea area used for swimming, windsurfing and sailing. Those who love the water can definitely enjoy some memorable times here; the shores promenade has a few hundred beach huts and the long greensward that stretches from the boundary with Walton-on-Naze to the gold club in the south make for additional attractions.

Frinton-On-Sea is home for many churches of different religions such as Anglican parishes, Roman Catholic churches, Methodist or Free churches. It also hosts the Frinton Summer Theatre Season at the McGrigor Hall every summer.

As for the many notable residents of the small town we can mention actor James McKenna who plays Jack Obsorne in Hollyoaks, Ross Davidson or co-founder of AOL UK and AOL Canada David Evans.
