Free To Air Wireless Networking

By:

Short range technologies are increasingly being seen as an alternative to GSM. There are no licensing issues or network subscriptions, the modules are lower cost and can provide effective wireless access at distances of up to 4KM without being in line-of-sight with a cellsite.

Mesh networking is an established communication method where each node not only transmits or receives its own information but also acts as a relay point to transfer information by hopping the information from one node to another. It allows for a low powered signal carrying small amounts of data (around 1Kb packets) to hop up to 10 times thus achieving distance over large areas.

Mesh networked modules are being adopted in many markets where remote sensor type measurements are required and Sequoia has a proven range of RF modules from Telit and Telegesis operating on 868MHz or 2.4GHz.

NE50 - 868MHz Telit Low Power Mesh Network Module
Measuring just 26x15x3mm, the NE50 allows the mesh concept to be realised in the licence free 868MHz band with up to 10,000 devices in a network. With adjustable power from 5-25mW, NE50-868 modules can reach up to 1500m in line-of-sight conditions and up to 10 hops on the network.

ZE51 & ZE61 2.4GHz Telit ZigBee Modules
Footprint compatible with the NE50, these compact and complete ZigBee ready modules support Full Function Device (FFD) and Reduced Function Drive (RFD) operation with IEEE 802.15.4 compliant MAC and PHY layers. Ideal as a low cost ZigBee OEM module for small battery powered devices, the ZE61 is the extended powered version of the low cost ZE51-2.4, optionally available with or without integrated antenna.

ETRX357 Telegesis ZigBee module - AT Command Driven
The ETRX35x family from Telegesis is the first module family on the market to feature the ARM Cortex M3 SOC from Ember Wireless. Utilising an efficient architecture that exceeds the dynamic range requirements imposed by the IEEE802.15.4 standard by over 15dB, the integrated receive channel filtering allows for robust co-existence with other communication standards in the 2.4GHz spectrum.

GG863-SR Telit ZigBee & GPRS Gateway
The GG863 All in One gateway is an innovative approach from Telit, bringing together the ZigBee or mesh technology with their market leading GSM/GPRS platform. Full user applications run on the onboard processor, managing data sending and receiving whilst the behavior of the gateway can be customised through the embedded Linux environment, with dedicated libraries for GSM and short range devices.
