Free Tips And Other Life Changing Information On The Internet

When I compare how I used to spend my leisure time in the past and how I spend it now, I see a huge difference. I still get the news, still watch shows and documentaries, but today it's mostly my computer and not my TV where I get my entertainment and information. It is totally amazing how the Web and Internet have changed my life, and most probably the lives of millions. I used to get up in the morning, make coffee and go get the newspaper. Now I get up, make coffee and get on the computer. I used to watch my shows on TV, then I began recording them on TiVo so I could watch them at my leisure. Now I watch them on my computer. The Internet has changed everything. Information, fun, entertainment, research, shopping, free tips, it's all there.

I am not sure how this came about. The Web is barely more than 15 years old and few people really used it in its beginning. It was just something for techies. Besides, it wasn't much fun being online with a deadly slow modem connection that generally dropped the line just when you were in the middle of something good. Broadband Internet access changed all that. At some point people switched from modems to DSL and cable connection. It happened gradually and went almost unnoticed, but now broadband access to the Internet is part of our homes just like water, gas and electricity. People now view broadband Internet access as a right, and no longer a privilege or service. It all happened in sort of a silent revolution.

And a revolution it is. The Internet has affected everything from work to entertainment to shopping, leisure and social activities. Online, you can search information and get help on just about any imaginable topic in seconds where it used to take hours, days or weeks. I still buy books (but for how much longer?), but it's become so quick and easy to find articles and tips online that they are barely needed anymore. Car tips? Computer tips? Tips on anything? It's all just a quick keyboard search away now.

I marvel that I can find information on just about anything within minutes whereas it used to be a major project. I mean, only a few years ago it took me eight weeks to get a replacement manual for a SLR camera because it had to be shipped from Japan. Today I can call it up on my computer instantly. Or if I have a problem with my car or need a tip on installing more memory in my computer, or want to find out what people think of hotels in a potential vacation spot, it's all there.

Sometimes it seems like there's almost too much information out there. Search engines now return hundreds or thousands of results for every question you ask them, and a lot of it is pretty useless. No problem, as we quickly adapt and learn to ask questions so they get us to what we need, and also learn where to look. It's an exciting new online world out there, one that is fun, exciting, and tremendously helpful with all of its free tips and quick access to whatever information we need.
