Free Mobile Phone Upgrades: How Do You Know If You Are Getting The Best Deal

By:

What is a mobile phone upgrade? Mobile phones needs to be updated, just like a tablet PC. Assume that an individual has subscribed to a particular network such as Vodafone, O2, 3G and stays connected to the same service for at least twelve months in a row since purchasing his cell phone. What happens next is that at the end of the twelve months, the network offers the customer a new cell phone in return for the customer signing a new contract with the network to stay with it for another twelve months. If the customer agrees to stay with the network for another twelve months, the mobile phone is provided to the customer at a discounted price which is much lower than its price in the market; and it is sometimes even offered free. This is what is defined as a mobile phone upgrade.

Basically what counts towards a mobile phone upgrade is that the cellular company is interested in getting new customers for its products, so it always takes care to ensure the best deals available for incoming customers. It also makes sure that these deals are made available at a much lower cost, well within the affordable range for a customer. However, surprisingly, if a new customer uses the service for twelve months and wishes to renew his contract with the cellular company, he is often charged much more than a new customer for choosing to remain with his cellular company as a loyal customer. This is very surprising, considering that the cellular company will reap additional revenue from the customer for another year on a mobile phone upgrade deal with the cellular company, but he is instead charged a much higher rate for renewal than a new customer is charged for his first deal with the cellular company.

Therefore, in effect, the cellular companies are discouraging the renewal of their contracts by existing customers and the message that is being sent out is not to stay with us for more than a year, max. This is what every customer is effectively being told to do by the cellular companies which are acting strangely, to say the least. There is a lot of ambiguity involved in all this because how can any company, let alone a cellular company, seek to disassociate itself from its customers instead of making them stay with it so that it can continue to profit by their use of its services? This question is unanswered to date.
