Fragrant Ways To Start A Fire

By:

The autumn and holiday seasons are approaching, and there is nothing more inviting than a warm, fragrant fire to relax you with scents like apple cinnamon and banana nut bread. If you follow the steps in this project below for making this homemade fire starter, you will not only have more time to enjoy family and friends during this season, but your house will be infused with the fragrant scents too. All of the items included in this project are inexpensive and readily available.

First you need to gather your materials for your homemade fire starters, which most can be found in items around your home. You will need an empty cardboard egg carton, dryer lint, candles or paraffin wax, and pure fragrance oils (for an inexpensive online superstore of pure fragrance oils, visit my blogger site listed below. All fragrance oils can be purchased for under $5).

Once you have gathered your materials, the candles will need to be melted down before further assembly. Now, everyone has old, unused candles lying around the house. Put them to good use. You can either melt them down in a double boiler technique (no microwave because of the metal wicks) or use paraffin wax from Wal-Mart (which can be melted in the microwave). Either way, render the candles to liquid form. Be sure and take out the wicks once the candles have melted. At this point you can add 2-3 drops of fragrance oil. Use enough wax to fill each section of the 12-hole egg carton. Now you are ready for the assembly of your homemade fire starters.

First, line each hole of the egg crate with your dryer lint, enough to fill up half of each section. Next, pour the melted candle wax over each section just to the brim of each hole. Allow the wax to harden before closing the lid. Once the wax has hardened, close the lid and store in a dry, cool place. See, there is really nothing hard to making these homemade fire starters.

Now, you have 12 fragrant, homemade fire starters to light your fires on those chilly autumn nights. To use, simply cut away each section from the egg carton, and place underneath your kindling in the fireplace. Light the candle from underneath. The dryer lint is a combustible agent and will readily ignite the rest of the candle, and keep it burning long enough to start your fire.

So, sit back and enjoy a cup of mocha and relax on into the holiday seasons with the smell of these fragrant, homemade fire starters. For other Christmas craft ideas, please click here: homemade fire starters
