Four Tips On How To Clean Mattress Stains

By:

Eating and drinking while lounging on your bed is not advisable. You can stain your mattress if you accidentally spilled something you are eating. Moreover, your mattress can also easily get dirty because of sweat, ink, or pee. Stains can be a breeding ground for different micro organisms.

A dirty mattress does not really provide a blissful kind of sleep. That being said, you have to clean and get rid of the stains right away. Here are some tips you would want to try:

1. Get rid of common food stains

You can use ordinary dishwashing liquid. Dilute it in warm water until soap bubbles appear. Get a soft-bristled brush. Use the soap bubbles to get rid of the stains. Gently scrub the stains out using the soft-bristled brush. Do not brush it vigorously or you will end up damaging the fibers of the mattress cover.

You can also try soaking dark-colored stains in vinegar. Mix one cup distilled white vinegar with two cups of water. Place the solution in spray container. Spray the solution on the areas affected. Let it stay there for about an hour. This should dissolve the stains. After an hour, wipe the residues off. Get a damp towel and wipe the affected area. Let it dry completely.

2. Get rid of ink stains

If you accidentally spilled ink, remove the excess right away. Blot the area with an absorbent paper towel. Press the absorbent paper towel lightly on the area affected. Apply milk on the stained parts. Milk can effectively dissolve the stains.

Once the stains have already come off, blot the area again with an absorbent towel. Soak clean towel in warm water and wipe the area affected to remove cleaning residues. Sprinkle baking soda to absorb remaining moisture. Let it dry completely.

3. Get rid of sweat stains

The most effective way of removing sweat stains is through the use of vinegar. Soak the area affected in one part vinegar and two parts water solution. Let it stay there for an hour. After an hour, wipe the surface of the mattress with a damp towel. Sprinkle baking soda to diffuse unwanted sweat smell. Vacuum the mattress and let it dry completely.

4. Get rid of blood stains

If you are dealing with fresh blood stains, immediately wipe the excess and treat the area with cold water to prevent blood from settling. Mix lemon juice and cold water and apply it on the area affected.

Keep your mattress in pristine condition all the time. Get rid of stains and avoid getting it dirty in the future.
