Soccer demands lots of fast spurts of speed within a general marathon-like running session, so develop your speed over both short and long distances. Agility is also important in soccer. Agility allows you to move around players, make contact with the ball even when it seems out of reach, and defend the goal. If you want to defeat other teams in terms of power, strength training is a third crucial area to develop. Developing your strength will also allow you to perform soccer skills better, over a longer period of time, than your opponents. Focusing on these three areas will allow you to be a threat on any soccer field.

Playing Soccer with the Family

Parents, coaches and teammates can do a lot for a player, but ultimately the person who can best help you improve your game is yourself. Practice both on and off the field is key. Each of us, no matter how much we try to hide it, has her own strengths and weaknesses on the field. Practice at home can give the double benefit of spending time with family and improving your game. You do not necessarily have to do anything different that what you do with your coach during practice. Your entire family may become interested in soccer because they see you having fun. Invite your parents to play with you, or to watch you play. Even if all you do is dribble the ball to and from practice, this in itself will increase your ball handling ability.
