Four Skid Steer Attachments For Cleanup Duty

By:

There are several skid steer attachments available for cleanup duty on a job site. At every construction site, there is debris of every kind — wood, steel, aluminum, asphalt, rock, concrete, paper, cardboard and trash.

There are four skid steer attachments that are virtually indispensable for skid steer clean-up operations: the sweep broom, the rotary broom, the scrap magnet, and the trash hopper attachment, Any construction contractor who makes the mess is expected to clean it up, so these attachments can make things easy.

The sweep broom is one of those attachments that makes people realize that it was invented not simply because it was a brilliant innovation; it was invented by somebody who was getting mighty sick of the push broom. The sweep broom attachment is simply a giant push broom that is simple to attach and use. The sweep broom creates very little dust when it is being used, so it is ideal for indoor or enclosed jobs, or even in areas where people in the vicinity would not appreciate a dust storm from your skid steer. Some atttachments are made with polypropylene, so they are tough, long-lasting, and don't need the brushes changed very often.

Rotary brooms are skid steer attachments that take sweeping to the next level. The giant spinning brush really digs into the surface, so these tools are excellent for residential roads and drives to make sure that current residents can get by with clean cars and tires intact. The best rotary brooms are available with 100% poly bristles or a 50/50 mix of polypropylene and metal bristles. Be sure to find a broom that uses a floating hitch point which allows the rotary broom to remain in contact with the surface no matter what the contour. Fixed brooms may bounce and lose contact on uneven surfaces.

Even if you've already used one of these venerable broom skid steer attachments, it is still a concern that there are a lot of sharp metal objects like screws, nails, brads, and fragmented metal that could be dangerous to passers-by and their vehicles. Or maybe the contractors are just simply committed to recycling as much scrap metal as possible from your site. Either way, there are skid steer attachments for that.

The skid steer scrap magnet is just like the ones seen at junkyards. Hanging from the boom on three chains, these attachments are powerful hydraulically-operated electro-magnets that are as easy to operate as the skid steer equipment itself. When activated, the magnet instantly pulls attractive metals up off of the ground for deposit into a truck or scrap pile. The versatility of the skid steer allows the operator to drive the scrap metal magnet wherever he wants to dump or store it. Once the magnet is suspending the scrap over the dump spot, shut down the hydraulic flow and the material is released.

Once all the debris has been collected from the construction, landscaping, or agricultural project, and all that is missing is a convenient place to put it, the a trash hopper attachment is a handy solution. This is a trash attachment that can go wherever the skid steer loader can go. If it just used for light stuff, the enclosure keeps things contained, and from potentially blowing away. But it is also strong enough to receive the gnarliest construction debris, and when the hopper has become full, it is easy to use the skid steer loader to take the load away from the site and dump it easily using the tilting action of the boom.

All of these attachments have specific roles. But they can work together to clean up, recycle, and even take good care of the "neighbors." Those are the kind of attachments that really make a difference.
