There are three main areas of ability to focus on when training for soccer: speed, agility, and strength. It is obvious why speed is important in soccer: soccer is a fast-paced game. Agility and reaction time are crucial skills for any soccer goalieIf you buy a rebounding net, you can work on both shooting and goalkeeping at the same time. You can practice shooting at a specific area, and as the ball rebounds you can improve your ability to capture it. You can even place a goalie net opposite to the rebounding net. A good pair of gloves is a final, fundamental piece of equipment for soccer goalies. You will want your gloves to be flexible and to grip well.

Developing Speed for Soccer

Though strength and agility are great on the soccer field, speed is necessary to be able to keep up with your opponents. There are hundreds of exercises you can do to increase your speed, and many of them allow you to work on agility as well. Of course, running around a field or track is a basic exercise. You can spice this up by adding obstacles such as hurdles, ladders, and cones. Make sure to work on speed with the soccer ball and without it. Once you have increased your speed, you can use resistance tools with your runs. This will help build strength in all the core muscles, especially the leg muscles. If you have a teammate to work with, try using mirror belts. They let you work on resistance, agility, and speed all at the same time. Being a successful runner in soccer means being able to both sprint and run over long distances.

At-Home Soccer Practice

As an athlete, you must realize that your expertise and skill as a soccer player is ultimately determined by yourself. Great soccer player understands the importance of practicing on and off the field. No player is perfect; everyone has something that he or she can improve on. Time at home is a great time to work out some of these weaknesses with a brother or sister or parent. You do not necessarily have to do anything different that what you do with your coach during practice. Practicing at home also helps make your family interested in the sport. Extend an invitation to your parents to play with you or to come to your games. Just dribbling the ball to the practice field can be fun and beneficial.
