Forgetful Lucy

To forget one's purpose is the commonest form of stupidity.
-Friedrich Nietzsche

Forgetfulness is an everyday thing with my friend Lucy. Working as a nurse during the night, she usually forgets everything because of rushing her way to her job. Last week at a camping site, she was so wakeful she failed to remember to bring the steel wire ropes and turnbuckles she just bought. Worse, she left it at the rigging hardware manufacturers store.

I can never forget to remember, though, that Lucy was not near like this before. Lucy is a good girl and campaigns against drug abuse. Her astounding memory on the excruciating anatomy class was definitely not due to any induced drugs. Graduating as a Cum Laude, her unique memory was not a fluke.

Everything changed when she belonged to the working class. She even forgets to put on her white shoes to complete her uniform. A nurse in sneakers? How cool is that? Her looks now is not closed to funny, however. Lucy looks very exhausted and sleepy although her brain is running like a low-maintained Volks, as she claimed.

Maybe a galvanized cable would work when attached to her left elbow. Everyone says she must have those important stuff pierced to her body through link chains to avoid disasters. By disaster, I meant an instance which was written in the pages of medical history.

Lucy killed a patient. Thats what she claimed, of course. A year ago, Lucy assisted her very first operation. It was an open-heart surgery. Although the operation was a success, the doctor in charge gave the patient a month or two to live. According to Lucy, the patient developed a tumor or cyst which went undetected.

Lucy was attending to the patient for two weeks then after the operation. Lucy said she went to the patient for vitals and went out to get the patients very expensive medicine for the tumor or cyst. When she was about at the quadrant where the medicine was located, she forgot why she went there in the first place.

Lucy kept asking herself but it was helpless. She went out to see all her patients schedule for the night and saw that she needed to give the patient with the tumor the medicine. She knew it was late so she rushed to get the medicine. When she arrived at the patients rooms, the patient was already dead.

She got traumatized by the incident. The doctors said it was not her fault since the patient really had to say goodbye to this world. None of those words comforted Lucy. She took a break from the shift. The hospital administrators offered her a day shift but she refused it.

She got over the incident now. Still on a graveyard shift, Lucy never forgets to keep jot down things. Sadly, she cant recall where she always leaves her notes. She has pockets but those arent friendly, either.

Like Adam Sandler said, Forgetful Lucy. Cracked her head like Gary Busey.
