Forget About Pet Dander

By:

As we head into the colder months, many pet owners will start noticing a little more dander on their nice clothes. It will irritate you for about 4 months, then, itll magically disappear.

Fortunately, you don't have to just "deal with it". Rather, arming yourself with some critical knowledge about what colder weather does to your pet's skin can also empower you to treat this condition.

As you may have noticed with your own skin, your pet will experience drier skin over the winter. When the weather gets colder, humidity drops. With the drop in humidity, skin tends to dry out, thus causing looser dander with your pet.

Here are a couple of things to keep in mind as you continue grooming your pet over the winter:

1. Groom less frequently. Instead of continuing your normal grooming routine, back down on the frequency of bathing. With the colder weather, your pet is not likely to be as dirty as she is during summer. Thus, there is no need to bathe as frequently.

2. When bathing, use less shampoo. Being your pet will not be as dirty, you can reduce the amount of shampoo you use. This will reduce the amount of buildup on your pet's skin, and also reduce the dander.

3. Switch to a moisturizing shampoo. While specific shampoos are based on your pet's coat type, generally an oatmeal based shampoo is good for moisturizing dry skin.
