Ford Used Cars- The Explorer As A Used Suv

By:

Ford used cars like there Explorer was a small SUV that became all the fad in North America in 1990. When you look at their models from 2006 and onward, the Ford Motor Company decided to update an original design with a much more extensive redesign to its frame (which is much stronger) and a redesigned independent rear suspension platform. The Ford Explorer competes against the likes of Toyota 4Runner, Nissan Xterra, Jeep Liberty and the Nissan Path Finder. This makes this segment of the auto industry very competitive and so my research will be on the Ford Explorer as a used SUV.

There are four Explorer models to choose from, the XLS, XLT, Eddie Bauer and a limited edition. All but the XLS offer seven passenger capacity (with 3 rows) and front side air bags come standard with all models. The Explorer also comes standard with Antilock brakes and traction/antiskid control with rollover sensor. Other options that come with the Explorer are two bucket seats for the second row, navigation system, sunroof, rear obstacle detection, DVD entertainment system and power adjustable pedals just to name a few.

There are several different fuel statistics for the various engine sizes the Explorer has to offer. In 2006 the V6 engine had a fuel rating of 16.7-litres, per 100km, for city driving and 11.4-litres, per 100km, for highway driving. The V8 engine had a fuel rating of 16.8-litres, per 100km, for city driving and 11.0-litres, per 100km, for highway. In 2010 the V6 engine had a fuel rating of 16.2-litres, per 100km, for city driving and 10.9-litres, per 100km for highway driving. The V8 engine had a fuel rating of 15.2-litres, per 100km, for city driving and 10.3-litres, per 100km, for highway driving.

There are several different engine sizes that the Ford Explorer has to offer from the years 2006 to 2010. The base model has a V6, 4.0-litre engine and this produces 210 horsepower with 254 pounds, per feet of torque. The V8, 4.6-litre engine has 292 horsepower with 300 pounds, per feet of torque. Both engines only come in a automatic transmission.

Lets look at the pros and cons of the Ford Explorer as a used SUV:

1-There use to be an issue with rough shifting in 2006 models with the six speed transmission, but this has been addressed and fixed.
2-The air condition can sometimes leak the actual refrigerant.
3-Its been rated an average used vehicle, by a leading online consumer watchdog.

I hope this helps when looking at Ford used cars like the Explorer.
