Research shows that as many as 40 percent of people looking for a new car, would leave a dealership if they could not find a car in the color that they wanted. In fact dealers say that people have sometimes bought cars just because of the color.

Ford realizes how important color is to car buyers, so they have decided to offer a new color palette with more options. The new palette will include metallics, neutrals, tinted clearcoats, and tri-coats with more shine and highlights. Susan Swek, Ford Motor Companys chief designer, Color and Materials, explained, People form an emotional connection with color. They live with it; it surrounds them every day. So what Ford is doing is staying consistent with our leadership regarding our core colors and pushing the limits of technology to expand our specialty colors. Ford will offer colors that will have a lot of depth and special effects. Some of the new colors include ruby red and blue candy tinted clearcoat.

Although there is still a large group that prefers the plain, basic colors, there is still a market for bright, unique colors. Silver is the most popular color around the world, while Japan, Mexico, and India tend to choose white. The Czech Republic leans toward blue. The United States and most European countries prefer white, silver, black, or gray. Ford will still offer these well liked neutral colors with the next generation, but they have also seen an interest in bold colors. When the Ford Fiesta came to the U.S. in 2010, exciting new shades such as Lime Squeeze and Bright Magenta were in high demand.

The new 2013 Ford Taurus was revealed with its Ruby Red shade at the New York Auto Show in April. Swek says, Its a bold color that takes red to a new level. Another new color, Blue Candy Tinted Clearcoat, is a head-turner according to Swek. When I saw a Blue Candy Tinted Clearcoat Focus driving down the street for the first time, it actually stopped me in my tracks, she said. The new options of colors give the buyer the chance to add some of their personality to their new car. It allows them to connect with the car and personalize it. Swek explains that the designers choose colors for certain cars with a purpose. She explains, We dont just pick a color and it winds up on a car. We understand how important color is. Keep an eye out for the bright, new colors Ford has to offer with the next generation of Ford vehicles.
