For Women-How To Choose A Costume

How to Choose a Costume For Women

Halloween for grown ups usually becomes more of a costume hunting challenge than a holiday filled with candy and creativity. If, however, you can get passed this small drawback you will at least be well on the way to pretending you're having a carefree, laidback evening. For the most part, women are going to have a more difficult time trying to find the right costume. For once, it may be for good reason--there are hundreds, if not thousands of options for women of all personalities, sizes, and shapes. That said, the majority of ladies' costume choices do fall into one of two basic categories--sexy costumes and all the others.

Naturally there are the familiar Halloween costumes like a ghost, a witch, a cat, etc. These are most likely a best bet for the more conventional Halloween party goer. Almost any costume can be altered to have a sleeker, sexier look or you can play it down a bit, and remain modest. Plus size costumes are now on the market in nearly every style. The important thing is to select a costume that you're comfortable in, both mentally and physically. It's pretty challenging to pull off your look if you don't feel self-confident in your halloween costume.

I for one, have noticed that the sexy category has grown quite a lot in recent years, the positive side of this being the costume choices are getting more varied and diverse. No longer is it only a choice between a sexy maid or sexy lady cop (although these are great options). Sexy costumes have expanded to include pop culture. Largely because of shows like 'Alias' and movies like 'Charlie's Angels', ladies can have a particular strong and glamorous figure in mind for Halloween. After all, it's, the one night a year when a customarily very conventional and professional woman can get away with cutting loose a little in public.

On the other end of the spectrum; in the not necessarily sexy genre, there are many great choices. Television shows and movies can still be your inspiration in this case. So-called classic television shows like 'I Dream of Jeanie' and 'I Love Lucy' have attractive characters that are female. Costumes from a specific period are also a fantastic choice. A decorative Renaissance era costume or even a costume inspired by the roaring twenties such as a flapper dress can be really fun.The 1950s is another fun time period to play with. Think poodle skirts, ponytails and saddle shoes. Above all, try to match your personality to your costume. There's just not much that completes costumes better than your playacting.

When you've selected your halloween costume, don't forget to accessorize with make-up, a handbag, handcuffs, wig, jewelry -- whatever is best for your costume. A great wig can have on a costume. Once all of the finishing touches are in place, go to your party ready to blow away the other guests. Have fun this Halloween and live out some fantasies. Really, that's what this holiday is about.
