For A Refreshing Break Away Try Tea Gardens

By:

You've got a few days off coming up and want to go someplace different. You really don't want to go to a busy tourist destination, but you do want to be near the beach. You look at a map and a funny name captures your attention - Tea Gardens. What's that? Is it a place people go to drink tea or is there something else to it?

In 1826, the Australian Agricultural Company brought Chinese advisers to the Tea Gardens area with the intention of growing vegetables in the rich soil of the region. Some people think that's where the town got its name from. Others believe it got its name from all the tea trees that grow naturally in the vicinity. That may be the best guess, since there is nothing to suggest that the Australian Agricultural Company ever really started a tea plantation there.

Now that youve got its intriguing name out of the way, why would you want to visit Tea Gardens? Looking at the map again, you notice that its location on the mouth of the Myall River makes it look like the kind of place you could go to to relax in nature and enjoy both fresh and salt water activities. Just across the Singing Bridge is another interesting sounding town called Hawks Nest.

The one thing you really don't want is a crowded resort, where you don't have any breathing space. The smaller the local population, the better, though you would like to have all the amenities you need to make your stay a pleasant one. With fewer than a thousand permanent residents, Tea Gardens certainly doesn't sound overcrowded. When you read about Marine Parade, the main dining strip in the area, youre almost sold on the idea. You can just picture yourself relaxing in the shade of an outdoor cafe on the banks of the river mouth, with fresh sea breezes cooling your sunburned face after a little too much time spent swimming in the sea or fishing.

Since you don't have time for a long vacation, you don't want to spend all your time driving from Sydney or spend all your money on an air fare. When you discover that Tea Gardens is fewer than fifty miles (about 75km) north of Newcastle, you realise that it's not a long drive at all. If you are disappointed, there's still plenty of time to take a look at Hawks Nest or go to Port Stephens for your short break.

You will like Tea Gardens when you see it, so why not book a Tea Gardens accommodation ahead of time and save yourself the trouble of looking for a place to stay? If youre imagining that such a small community would be lacking in first class accommodations, youll be amazed when you look into whats available. You can fulfill your dream of living at the beach or riverside in Tea Gardens, if only for the length of your stay and you can do it without breaking the bank. Give Tea Gardens a go, it just may be your cup of tea.
