Whenever a "food guru" recommends a particular dietary change, people can all too often go overboard. It"s pretty well known that protein is the
food that burns fat, but that doesn"t mean everyone should quit eating balanced diets.
On the same token, it"s a good time to determine what a balanced diet actually is, since most of what"s out there is misinformation.
The Food Pyramid is Misinformation
What few people know is that the "standard balanced diet" represented by the food pyramid is highly inaccurate. This is especially true when you"re trying to burn body fat. There is much that"s included as part of a healthy diet that really isn"t all that healthy.
Specifically, what we're taught about the dairy group and most of what we know about the grain/cereal group is false. Dairy products are often high in lactose, which is a simple sugar.
Also, it"s often rendered mostly useless by the process of pasteurization. The calcium is insoluble because the necessary flora to process it is killed in the pasteurization process. You can actually get more calcium out of many different vegetables than you can pasteurized milk.
Most of the time, when people eat from the grain and cereal group, that means wheat flour. In terms of carbohydrates, few things can be worse for your dietary needs than wheat flour without actually being simple sugars.
There are a great number of other grains that are significantly lower in carbs than wheat flour, but you"re not as likely to find them in the commercial grade bread products.
Burning Body Fat is Easier with Two Food Groups
In the interest of burning body fat, it"s much easier to think in terms of having two food groups""meat and fruits/vegetables. This is especially true when you"re first starting on a lower carb diet. If you don"t eat meat of any sort, you should fill that group in with unroasted nuts and nut products.
The key element here is to raise your metabolism, but not have too many free-floating carbs in your system. Your body will have a natural tendency to burn what"s floating around before it burns fat. If you don"t give your body a choice, it will burn fat.
Always Drink Lots of Water When Dieting
Whatever plan you"re on, you should drink a lot of water when dieting. Water will help flush out toxins that may be released, as well as keep your body from becoming too acidic.
Remember, they"re called "fatty acids" for a reason. Also, with your metabolism being increased, your body temperature may be tempted to increase, and you will need extra water to help maintain a normal body temperature.
Another great rule of thumb is to keep your food that burns fat""all of your food for that matter""organic and unprocessed. Most of the time, people think of organic food as just not having any additives in it. But this is only partly true.
Organic also means that nothing nutritious was taken out of it. All too often, sterilization and preservation techniques kill good bacteria, burn out some nutrients, and trade good fat for bad fat.
