Setting Up a Raw Food Kitchen

Deciding to eat a raw food diet to manage your IBS, Colitis and Crohn's Disease and symptoms is simple and fun. Many medical experts and researchers feel that diet and lifestyle changes will control any chronic illness including IBS, Colitis and Crohn's Disease. Some experts feel the diseases will be cure by adhering to a new and strict regimen of eating. Taking that first positive step toward health need not be difficult. Start by converting your kitchen as the first step to better health.

The first rule in a raw food kitchen is that everything must be clean and kept clean. This includes the food itself, your hands, your prep surfaces, pots and pans and storage containers and utensils. Keep a spray bottle around filled with lemon, water and borax. It is an environmentally friendly cleaner that is safe and healthy. Baking soda is also a healthier cleaner for the kitchen.

You will need to equip your new raw food kitchen with several food processors including a blender, a juicer and a food dehydrator. In addition you will need a variety of storage containers of different sizes and shapes. Other things to buy include cutting boards, and a good set of knives. When eating a raw food diet, you don't want to eat anything that is older than three days, if you can help it. The only point to a raw food diet is freshness.

You may be raring to begin your new diet, but ease into it first. Set a date in the future when you go completely raw. Before that date comes add raw foods at a meal at a time to get your body and your mind used to the change. The increasing roughage and fiber of fruits and veggies is going to take some getting used to. So start slow and work into it.

Don't go out and buy expensive equipment all at once. Buy one piece at a time until you're sure you've made the switch for good. Keep bowls of fruits around the kitchen so that you and your family can grab a piece as a snack on the go. This keeps you thinking raw food until you become accustomed and used to the idea.
