Food Is Poisoning Your Body

Food Is Poisoning Your Body

Eating is a big thing in our lives. The Asian communities have always used the joy of eating to build business and unite families. However for much of the western world this has not always been so.

With the advent of a mega range of cooking shows on TV, Radio and print media and further combined with the globalisation things have changed dramatically.

These changes has brought about the importing or products from countries globally and with it changes in food technology.

These changes are not necessarily good. Many packaged goods on our supermarket shelves are now full of so many numbered ingredients that you can hardly call it food in fact they are mostly chemically modified versions of food. This of course is not limited to imported goods. Many local products are the same.

For example, recently in a large supermarket chain in Australia I decided to examine the ingredients in a bread in the fresh bakery section. This bread had no less than 25 separate ingredients listed. When I make the equivalent I would have only 6 ingredients and the result would be tastier than what the supermarket is selling.

Fresh foods such as breads and meals are full of ingredients that are questionable from a nutritional point of view. These ingredients are simply added to increase visual appeal, shelf life and sometimes texture and palatability.

With advertising subliminally telling people they are too busy to cook and prepare food at home more and more families are falling into the trap of eating foods that are pre-prepared. This trap is slowly leading to more and more questionable illnesses and allergies within the western world.

Cooking quality meals and even bread at home is not time consuming even though we are led to believe it is. There are many recipes that provide good nutritious meals with very little work and ingredients that you can keep as store cupboard ingredients.

Take making biscuits. Packaged biscuits in my opinion now all taste the same. They are loaded again with questionable ingredients and an elevated amount of sugar and salt. Further to this there has been biscuit (cookie) dough in the fridge section that equally contains questionable ingredients. The silly thing is you can make a batch of butter biscuits with only 4 ingredients and in less than 10 minutes or even a batch of muffins!

Ask yourself how much are spending on your groceries? Many families spend hundreds of dollars every week on their groceries unnecessarily. Buying habits include pre-packaged foods and snack foods that hold no nutrition. Not only preparing quality meals at home can save money it can change behaviours, health problems, weight and energy levels. Cooking at home can bring families together.

Obesity and diabetes is becoming a western world health problem. Why? Because of the lazy way people have chosen to eat. This is not restricted to meat eaters it is the same for vegans and vegetarians as well.

Sure you may agree with what I am saying but good food is more than just taste it is about money, health, families and having fun creating.

Next time you go shopping question what you are buying and consider the smarter easier alternatives.
