Floor Underlayments And Lightweight Concrete Level Floors

By:

Self-leveling concrete is polymer-modified cement that does not require excessive amount of water for placement. Self-leveling cement is used to create smooth and flat surface with a compressive strength to install interior floor materials or coverings. Self leveling compounds including lightweight concrete and cement are really an effective way to prepare a rough surface for tile, vinyl, carpet and even hardwood.

There are two main groups of materials the category of self-leveling concrete; namely, toppings and underlayments. Both toppings and floor underlayments play a crucial role in giving a smooth and flat form to floors and surfaces. To give a smooth shape to an existing subfloor and rectify any surface related irregularities, floor underlayments are installed before installation of all sorts of floor coverings. Sheet vinyl, wood ceramic tile, carpet and vinyl composition tile called VCT are different forms of floor coverings. Warehouse floors, retail stores, institutional facilities and light industrial applications are some of the typical applications where you require lightweight concrete toppings. Toppings perform as actual floor without any floor covering.

There are some suggestions and safety tips to use self-leveling concrete and cement. The surface should be made clean to give firm adhesion to self-leveling concrete. To provide strength to self-leveling cement, the surface should be properly cleaned with a special latex primer. The pure form of latex is to be used to give a firm position to the surface. All little pits, cracks and pumps of surfaces should be properly cleaned with paint roller or paint brush or small broom so that primer clearly penetrates all forms of surface. Following directions on the cement package is necessary to mix the concrete properly. About 1 1/4 gallons of water must be mixed with half the bag of powder. The mixed compound should be pour onto the floor so that it flows to all spots. It is advised to mix the concrete for at least two minutes to avoid any thickness to mixed materials. If you find any low spots in surface, you better pour a puddle on them. Dont forget to follow the time limit and use the flat trowel to give a nice shape to the edges. Checking cement package is necessary to confirm the drying time of mixed material. By adopting above mentioned tips and suggestions, you give a perfect shape to your floor with using floor underlayments and lightweight concrete.
