Flight Safety Seats For Babies

Nowadays, when adults drive with youngsters in the vehicle they never have a second thought about buckling them in to their car seats. They do not take "no" for an answer and kids hardly ever resist because it's just such an everyday thing. Keeping children safe while riding in a motor vehicle has become second nature to parents.

In light of the concern parents have for automobile safety, one might think that flying through the heavens at five hundred miles per hour in an airplane with youngsters would lead every parent to bring an airplane approved car seat. But if you take a look around airports nowadays, parents traveling with children hardly ever take along car seats for their youngster's plane seat. The reason is obvious - an airline car seat is the same piece of equipment as the automobile car seat. It's bulky, heavy, meant to sit firmly in the back seat of a motor vehicle and not made to be lugged through today's airports. This is like using the same shoes you wear in summer to trek through deep winter snow. All things considered, parents shouldn't be any less conscious of their child's safety in an airplane that is traveling 8 times the speed that they generally drive their automobiles.

A handful of concerned parents do carry safety seats through crowded airports, however they face one more obstacle once they board the plane - car seat installation. To start with, car seats can only be installed in seats by the window. If these beefy seats were in any other plane seat, they would prevent other passengers from getting in and out. The installation process is also a hassle due to the fact that the little one can not be in the seat while it is being installed. This causes installation to become a 2 adult process, one parent to take care of the installation and the other to watch the youngster. For the few parents who've made it past installation, they're usually confronted with the realization that these car seats generally do not fit very well, if they do at all, in these cramped airplane seats. To sidestep the headache, many parents just forego any type of child safety device and just buckle their little one in with the traditional seat belt. This is essentially opting for convenience over the safety of a child. Even during turbulence a traditional seat belt is insufficient protection for young kids who do not have the ability to gird themselves.

A few years ago the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) saw that very few children were taking flight with airplane approved travel seats and they addressed the problem vigorously. After lengthy testing, the FAA put their stamp of approval on the first aviation restraint for children, certifying that it afforded the same level of safety to a car seat used on a plane.

Unlike a car seat, the CARES (Child Aviation Restraint System) is a light buckle and belt apparatus that converts the plane seat into something that appears similar to a flight attendant's airplane safety restraint. CARES is extremely portable, very easy to install, may be installed on any size airplane seat, and in any airline seat in the row. The best thing is it only weighs a pound and takes only a minute for installation. The Child Aviation Restraint works hand in hand with the regular plane seat belt. Instead of being slid through a slot behind or under a car seat, the lap seat belt goes over the child's lap. Once the shoulder strap section of Child Aviation Restraint System is installed, the lap seat belt just loops through the lower portion. The youngster remains comfortable, but safely protected in a specialy designed harness. Another advantage is the fact that the child sits in his own seat as the CARES gets installed around him.

Possibly the greatest thing about this FAA approved child aviation restraint is the fact that it allows parents to provide a safe seat they know their children need and deserve, with no need to break their backs and worrying about struggling through a crowded terminal hauling a heavy car seat and then dealing with a messy installation process once they've boarded. Mothers can actually fly by themselves with two youngsters seated on either side of her. Parents are encouraged by the portability of CARES and the ease of installation, allowing them to have a stress free and safe flight with their children.
