Flat Iron And Heat Setting

Flat iron can be a boon for hair straightening; but if it is not used wisely it prove to be a curse. The important fact before using the iron is to adjust the temperature; otherwise it can cause burning of hair. The basic thing is to test the temperature before using the iron straightaway. For testing, take a damp piece of tissue paper and press it between the plates for a few seconds. In the normal case, a small amount of steam can be seen; but if there is scorching and smoking it can be inferred that the temperature is higher.

If the hair is exposed for shorter time, it can prevent over drying and other damage to the hair. So always use the heat level according to your hair type. For soft hair, very less amount of heat is required and for thicker hair much more amount of heat is required. For medium wavy hair which is not kinky, the temperature about 390 degree F and 425F is the best so as to attain the result you are in search of. If the adequate amount of heat is applied, then the hair style becomes more effective and the styling is done quickly. For a damaged colour treated hair a temperature of about 180 C can be set; and for the thick coarse hair or for tight curls a temperature between 190 - 210 C can do the work.
So while purchasing an iron, always look out for the ones which provide adequate temperature and speed settings. This is because each hair types need different temperature and using the same temperature on different hair types may destroy hair texture.
