Flash & Internet Marketing

By:

Using flash for Internet Marketing certainly has its benefits. It's attractive, exciting and can even be interactive. It doesn't do much for your Search Engine Optimisation, but it certainly encourages traffic to stay on your website and have a look. Flash is modern - long gone are static websites and websites completely full of text.

So what makes flash so special?

Flash may be expensive, but it is a worthwhile investment. Of course your Internet Marketing strategies will drive traffic to your website, but getting people to stay, browse, enquire or even purchase, is a whole new element. Flash simply gives visitors a reason to stay. Some of the greatest products on the market use a whole website based on flash - V Energy drinks are a good example.

When flash is interactive, the visitors can participate on your website. Clicking on certain images in the flash will create different responses, often creating anticipation. If the flash has sound, then viewers will often click most or all of the sections in the flash player to fulfill their curiosity.

Unless you have a sizeable start-up capital for your website, it is recommended that you look at flash down the track. It can cost thousands of dollars for flash, especially if you invest in interactive flash. So do your research to make sure it is right for you.

Why can sites that are purely flash rank so well in Google?

When it comes to competitive keyword searches, Google has relativity algorithms that are about 99% linkage data. For companies that are already established with linkage data, the page copy is secondary for relevant terms.

Google focuses on listing the most relevant content - not the most optimised content. A major search engine will aim to emulate end users. Therefore, strong traditional marketing campaigns and exceptional SEO strategies will set the basis for attention.

Although search engine spiders don't pick up the text in flash, there are still ways it can assist your Internet Marketing i.e. SEO. An expert in the field will make sure that they:

- Embed the flash into HTML pages;
- Add HTML text to the page where applicable;
- Add useful page titles and meta tags;
- Use no-embed tags; and
- Break the content into different flash files to create different HTML pages around it.

So if you plan on having flash introduced to your website, still make sure you focus on the back-linking and SEO keywords. When it comes to internet marketing, all the flash in the world won't drive your SEO. It is simply a glorified way of showing off your business and keeping visitors on your site longer - nothing more, nothing less!
