Five Ways To Quit Taking No Action And Start Making A Difference

By:

In March 2010, Fox News reported that the majority of Americans, regardless of their political leanings, were frustrated with the state of the nation. Oftentimes, this frustration comes from political leaders not governing according to the will of the majority. Other sources claim that the United States is becoming a corporate state. In other words, it is a country that is ruled by corporations, including the media, that make the laws and statutes that benefit themselves and not the people.

While the majority of Americans feel disenfranchised by the leadership of the country, they still love their country. They want to make it better. Instead of taking no action, decide now to make a difference. Following are five suggestions of how you can make a difference in your community and the nation as a whole.

Get Information from a Variety of Sources

In order to avoid media deception, get you information on current events from a variety of sources. For example, you could subscribe to both a conservative and a liberal blog on topics that you're interested in. By reading opposing viewpoints, you will be able to shape your own opinion.

Get the Facts

Too often one of the problems with media deception is that individuals simply listen to and agree with whatever they hear on the news, read on the internet, or see on TV. Rarely do headlines give detailed facts about an issue. If you really want to know about a particular law or proposed action, read the original document. If that is too long or not available, find or an excerpt and read it.

Avoid Decisions Based on Commercials

A good example of the problems with the above point is 30 second TV commercials during election campaigns. Individuals asked who they were going to vote for often identify the name of the candidate that has the best TV commercials. They don't stop to find out about the candidate's positions, voting records, or business and political experience.

Get Involved

One of the best ways to help prevent a corporate state is to get involved. Instead of taking no action, choose to attend city council meetings, school board meetings or legislative sessions. Volunteer for these organizations. You can volunteer on the national scene or in your local neighborhood.

Volunteering Yields Benefits

*You are making a difference, either locally or nationally.
*You become acquainted with the details of the programs, information, and events that concern you.
*You network and become influential to the people who make the decisions that impact you.
