Never let your dog get away with leaving a mess or chewing up your belongings no matter how cute it might look. A lot of new dog owners make the error of allowing their puppy do whatever they want when they first bring them inside their home. Tolerating such conduct grants the pup to chew on your shoes or other things and when you decide to end such behavior you will only confusion to your dog. Allowing him to chew your belongings one day and punishing him the next day will makes it seem like your penalizing him without a reason. Be consistent with your training.

Be sure to use only use positive reward and nothing else when training your dog. Punishing your dog by striking your dog is never acceptable. If your puppy misbehaves use different kind of punishment alternatively. For Instance, if your German shepherd dog creates a mess, make him go to his spot and make him sit for a bit there instead of hitting him for it. Also make sure you only punish your puppy when you catch him red-handed. If you're punishing your dog over a thing that he did a while back, he will not understand why you're punishing him mad at him. Because dogs try to make you happy, you should reward them for obeying you with treats and praises. Punishing your dog can only lead to more behavior problems down the road.

Even though all GSD are all within the same breed and they all share similar characteristics, there are some differences in their personalities within the breed. If you know your dog's personality, you should use it to your advantage to make training even easier on both of you. If a specific training technique does not work on your puppy, don't let it prevent you from continuing training, instead try a different rout to train your dog that trick that you have been trying to teach him. When you train you're training your dog you will start to notice to what your dog responds better and training your dog will become much easier for you.

Always praise your dog when he does something you liked or required him to do. Praising your pup and granting him rewards motivates him to keep obeying your rules and listen to your instructions.
