Five Reasons To Avoid Overspending

By:

Last year, a night prior to Christmas, I happened to meet a young hawker boy, who was dressed in rags. His eyes, where there should be the brightness of childhood, were burning with the flames of unfulfilled desires. His lips, which should have opened to sing the Christmas song, were opened in an unsaid plea. On this special night, when other children of his age were waiting for the Santa Claus, he was looking for his prospective customers, who would come and buy something from the bucket heavier than him.

That small incident really moved me and made me to review my extravagant budget, especially made for Christmas. It came to me as if I was the reason of the tears floating in the eyes of that young boy. That night, I went home without shopping. Directly coming to my room, I took a pen and a paper and started writing. I had given a task to myself that was to think, at least, five reasons to avoid overspending.

The first thought that stuck my mind was related with the young hawker boy, and many needy children like him were deprived of the true spirit of Christmas. There are grave chances that excessive expenditure could add to their misery.

Second, this very thought led to the foundation of many crimes that are happening due to the social inequality. I think, many times, this social inequality can lead to rebellion resulting in anarchism in the society.

Third, personally I think that this nasty routine of splurging, which does not discriminate from status to status, can lead you into a state of heavy debt, or make you insolvent. Many stories set an example for this.

They say that bad luck is just like an unwelcomed guest, if one starts to spend his/her wealth in a good manner, then surely his/her future is going to be different from what it is now. In future, I will not seek for financial help from others. If I will buy myself a life assurance policy, I will be glad that at least I have done something for my loved ones and they are going to live a normal life even if I die.

The last but not the least, the saved money can be used for the benefit of society, for making charity, for building schools, for the rehabilitation of the people who have unfortunately become the victims of some catastrophe, for instance, for the victims of tsunami, or earthquakes etc. In this way, I can return the society what I earned from her help and can fulfil my responsibility as an effective and responsible member of the society.

That young kid changed my habit of being a spend thrift, and that very day, I learned a very important message of my life. Those memories of that very Christmas evening are still fresh in my mind. During all the Christmas seasons, I have ever spent, that was the best one. Thanks to that kid for bringing this new change in my personality. Now I ask you that when are you going to let someone bring away the same change in you?
