Five Gifts Sure To Help Your Graduate Land A Dream Job!

Five Gifts Sure To Help Your Graduate Land A Dream Job!

By:

Have you been racking your brain for the perfect gift for your new graduate? If so, I have five great ideas. They are indeed a bit unconventional because they're not the usual luggage, laptop, dorm fridge, or iPhone. The iPhone or laptop are probably at the top of your graduate's list, but one or two of these gifts could be just what your graduate needs to keep a step ahead of the competition!

Gift idea #1

A tailored business suit is always a winner and will work well when going on interviews. Make sure that males select a black, navy, or grey suit with a conservative shirt and tie. Females should stay with a conservative color palette, although, they can select something a bit trendier. Stylish is good - you just don't want your graduate to be remembered as the one in the hot pink suit with the lime green flip flops and matching accessories.

Gift idea #2

Any applicant benefits from a well written resume, and if it gets your graduate a telephone or personal interview, it's an incredible benefit! The resume is a key marketing piece and is one of the most effective ways for your graduate to showcase her/his strengths, abilities, practical experience, and accomplishments. Without a well written resume, your graduate probably won't stand out above the competition and may be added to the do not call pile. A resume is best left up to a certified professional resume writer who understands how to tailor it to a specific industry and to the role your graduate is targeting.

Gift idea #3

Another great gift is giving your graduate the gift of communication. If your graduate struggles with public speaking, hiring a communication and speaking coach will open up a new world of opportunities. This is a perfect gift for anyone who wants to succeed in the business world. The communication and speaking coach will work with your graduate and demonstrate the way to function appropriately in social settings, how to network, and how to speak well in public. Moreover, the coach will tailor strategy sessions to your graduate's personal style, needs, and budget.

Gift idea #4

Speaking another language is an excellent way for your graduate to get ahead. There are a ton of classes, online offerings, and prerecorded products available. And, this is a wonderful way to gain the advantage over other applicants. Most employers are seeking candidates with additional language skills. Gift idea #5

Lastly, hiring a career coach is a terrific way to enable your graduate to identify personal strengths, map out a comprehensive career plan, and set challenging career goals aligned with personal and professional aspirations. A career coach will work with your graduate through the transition from school to work. The partnership that your graduate forms with her/his career coach will play an instrumental role in making a lifetime of well-informed career decisions.

Okay, so these gifts are probably not on your graduate's top five list. However, selecting one or two of these items will give her/him an edge over the competition. That said, you still might want to make one of those gifts the iPhone - this might be the only way you'll get calls after s(he) lands that dream job!
