Fitting Yourself For The Best Support Bras

Many women don't realize that they are wearing the wrong size bra. Some go for years with ill fitting support bras, never knowing that they could find more comfort and better support if they changed to the right size. If you know how to properly measure your own size, you'll be able to find a better bra overall and the difference will be amazing.

The first step to measuring for support bras is to measure your band size. Measure underneath your current bra, directly under the bust, with all the air expelled from your lungs. Make sure the measuring tape is parallel with the ground. Round the results to the nearest whole number. If the measurement is an even number, add 4 inches. If it's odd, add 5.

When you measure for the cup size of your future support bras, you need to make sure you are standing straight with arms at the side. It may be best to have someone do this for you so you aren't moving much. Also, make sure you are wearing a non-padded bra for this measurement. Measure at the fullest part of the bust, and round up to the nearest whole number.

Now you have to do a little math. Subtract the band measurement from the cup measurement. For every inch difference, the bra goes up a cup size. A basic guide is as follows; a difference of 0 to 1/2" is an AA cup, 1" is an A up, 2" is a B cup, and so on up to 10" being a J cup.

You should be able to figure out your size for support bras easily on your own, but sometimes getting an expert fitting is the way to go. Most places have specific services for just fitting, other lingerie retailers may sometimes have an expert fitter on staff.

Once you have the right measurements, you'll be set to buy better fitting support bras. Remember to re-measure if you have any major body changes, whether gaining or losing weight, pregnancy, or other changes that can affect your breast size. A comfortable bra is something every woman needs, so take the time to measure and find out if you've been wearing the wrong size this whole time. And then, upgrade! You'll feel the difference and see the difference, and once you have a bra that fits better, the rest of your clothing will too.
