First-time Home Owners: Claim Your Obama Tax Rebate

If you've been waiting for the right time to get into a new home, 2009 may be your lucky year that you want to jump into the home ownership game. The 2009 Economic Stimulus Package signed by President Obama has brought special tax credit and grants for first-time homebuyers. The law has been created to help first-time homebuyers with an $8,000 non-refundable credit for all homes bought this year. The key is the right knowledge regarding rebate on tax and acting at the right time.

In order to get the Obama tax rebate there are some steps you need to take. First, you have to fill in the online form on the FHA & HUD website and if you bought your home between January 1, 2009 and December 1, 2009, you can apply for tax rebate up to $8000.

If you have bought the house between April 1, 2009 and January 1, 2009, you are still qualified for a tax credit up to $7500. Unlike 2008, this year the tax rebates do not have to be paid back to the authorities. If you are single and ready to apply for the tax rebate, your income must be below or equal to $75,000 per year. If you are a couple, then your cumulated yearly income must not exceed $150,000.

The house you are looking to buy must be located within the US and it must be for residential use and not for commercial purpose. Also, if you have the house in inheritance or received it as a gift, you are not eligible for this tax rebate. Furthermore, if you are buying the house from a family member or friends, you cannot benefit from the tax credit. In order to qualify as "first time" buyer, you may not have owned a house for the last three years. You must also live in your new home for at least three years, or you will have to pay back the credit.

This package attempts to help the American people through grants, tax relief, state and local fiscal relief and loans. President Obama says that the tax credit would help Americans clear their debt levels and lead a hassle free life.

As a first time homeowner, you must be aware of the different types of loans that will be easier for you to get according to your needs. You must be prepared with all the information provided by the agency and select the best loan that fits to your situation.
