First Aid Kit At Home

By: Caitlinaa Fuller

I always make sure that I have certain medical items available in my house in case of accidents. I have lots of plasters as they are always useful and I have antiseptic cream as well as anti histamine cream. We live near a canal and the path is always full of nettles and brambles so these things come in very helpful. I also keep in some pain killers, paracetamol and ibuprofen tablets as well as some antacid tablets. I have recently added a knee wrap to my collection.

It sounds odd but I have started getting a bit of housemaids knee. I have been kneeling a lot lately, changing nappies as I have newborn twins and I have found my knee is extremely sore. I cannot kneel on it anymore because of the pain and so I have started using a gel pack on it to try to get rid of the fluid that is there. I am also trying to lose weight, as I think that might be part of the problem because I gained a lot during my pregnancy. Another thing I am increasing is my exercise as I usually walk every day but found this hard when the babies were first born and so I stopped doing it for a while and I think this has made me less fit, made my circulation worse and make my knee worse. I am just hoping that applying the colpac will help as I have no other way to change because I cannot sit right down on the floor as it is too sore after my episiotomy. I have no changing table and would not risk changing them on the bed for fear of having to wash the whole duvet if they have an accident. I normally have no trouble kneeling or getting down on the floor and so I hope things will right themselves very soon and I hope that the treatment I am doing will work to help things to heal up more quickly.

I suppose I should ask the doctor about it really but it does take a long time to walk there and although I am now walking daily again, I am not sure if I can cope with walking that far and also have the additional stress of making sure that it was not feed time and hoping I would not have to change a nappy as there is not room for my double buggy in the loo! Goodness sounds like it might be stress to blame, maybe I should try calming down a bit.
