Fire Spriklers - Types Of Fire Suppression Methods

By:

Fire protection : Basically, we have different types of Fire Suppression methods which includes Water based Fire suppression, Gas Fire suppressions and Aerosol Fire suppression. Water-based System, Wet pipes and Dry pipes are two types of water based systems. Water is stored in wet pipes all the time whereas in dry pipe only when the valve is released pipe will have water in the system. Dry pipe water suppression with smoke detection combined is a Pre-action approach. As water is a known element, People understand that water is effective fire suppressant element. Since cost is an issue, its the least expensive option to use.

The most common waterless agent is Gas, Fire extinguishing agents like nitrogen, argon etc., is available in Gas based Fire suppression systems. The main features of Gas based Fire suppression systems are: Using oxygen starvation Fire is extinguished. Reducing the oxygen content of the atmosphere, and air is displaced by the extinguishing agent when the proximity of fire is between 10% and 13% by volume; this smothers the fire and helps to prevent re-ignition. This method being environmentally friendly and it is less expensive as these gases widely available. Gas based Fire suppression systems can be used in Computer rooms, Telecommunications systems, Generator rooms, Museums, Store rooms, electrical switching rooms, Cotton storage, Storage of chemical products, etc.

While deciding a system, we need to consider cost, operation, maintenance and space requirements. Aerosol Extinguishing is a newest development technology among fire suppression systems. This is advancement in fire suppression system than water systems, dry chemical and gaseous systems. This Aerosol is safe for personnel facility, non-toxic and environment friendly. Among all other systems, Aerosol fire suppression systems are most cost effective. Aero-K technologies are used in Aerosol systems. It incorporates a unique potassium based aerosol using pyrotechnic based chemistry. Aero-K generators are distributed around the room when the fire is detected. The generators dispense an effective ultra fine potassium based aerosol which extinguishes the fire within seconds, and it remains in the area for about 60 minutes. It leaves very little residue which can be cleaned by venting and dusting.
