Fire Safety When Two Families Live Together

By:

With our country in such dire straits these days, we really need to protect ourselves from any and all kinds of fires. With so many of us losing our homes, jobs, and our ways of life, we sometimes forget that if we had a fire we could end up ruined. You could lose everything, even your own life or the lives of your family members. Since this country has so many people losing their homes to foreclosure and losing their jobs, some are having to leave their home to live with friends or family.

These people are going to have to learn how to deal with two-family dwellings. When you have two families living together the chances of having a fire in the home becomes greater. You will have more people in the kitchen cooking and forgetting to turn burners off. Everyone must be more careful to make sure the cooking does not get out of hand and start a fire. If this were to happen you could start a fire that would cost you and several other couples what little you have left.

If you were to have to move in with other family member or even friends, put in those fire devices that will help in keeping all of you safe. If there are some in the home already, just make sure that those are in working order and it probably will not hurt to add a few more. It would probably be a good idea to check with your insurance agent to change the status of the dwelling. Most insurance policies are for one family units only. Even if this is for a short time, accidents can happen.

Always make sure that you do not overload your plug ins with all of those extensions cords. If you are not using an appliance, just unplug it as this electric is still running in this cord even when it is shut off. Never leave an extension cord laying on the floor where people can walk on it. This will cause the cord to become frayed and set your carpet or rug on fire. Always think about safety first before anything else and you should be fine.

No one relishes the thought of having to move out of their home and in with someone else, but it is happening more and more. There will be sharing of things you did not have to share before like the bathroom and sleeping quarters. Just try to make the best of it and be considerate to those you are moving in with. If you smoke, do it outside. Use care and caution so you do not damage their home in any way. It is important to be considerate even to the closest of friends or family.
