Fire Fighting Equipment Extras For Even More Safety

By:

It is like everything else that you need, there are accessories and must haves. Even a car which comes fully equipped still needs some doing up before the purchaser is happy. So too it is with fire fighting equipment. I am going to mention some extras that make the job of looking after you a bit easier.

First of all we have a manual or hand operated fire alarm bell. It should be kept in the main office and one in the back department. If for some reason you cannot reach the fire alarms, this one will be handy and can be heard up to 35 metres at 60 db. It is housed in die cast aluminium with a bright red coat of paint and it can also be drilled into the wall.

Secondly, in the fire fighting equipment extras, comes the double-handled trolley which can carry two fire extinguishers and a manual fire alarm. It is great in running from place to place, trying to tote two extinguishers and make an alarm at the same time.

Next are the fire safety signs. They are so important in letting the public and staff know where the exit door is, the fire alarm, the telephone, the route to the exit and the stairwell. They should be bright fluorescent in colour and laminated to last longer. In your safety manuals have an escape route from all departments graphed out so there is no confusion at the last minute.

Painted route signs with arrows on the floor are most essential because you and your staff or patients are most likely going to be crawling on your knees to get to the exit. If the apartment building or hospital becomes over-ridden with smoke, it is essential to see your way to the hall and to the exit. By following the brightly
coloured lines, you should be able to find your way.

Bright lights to illuminate the pathway to safety are also a fire safety equipment extra. The lights should be independent of the building electrical system, placed low for the patients or workers to see and one huge spot light at the exit door or stairwell door. The stairwell doors should never be locked or jammed and the railings should be painted with bright photoluminescent paint.

Finally, all equipment including fire hoods and blankets should be itemised and put into lockers with easy to read labels. Every floor should have a locker and the staff should make sure the equipment is kept in an orderly fashion. Fire fighting equipment is most essential in the escape and rescue of anyone from any building.
