Finding The Words: How To Write Original Birthday Cards

By:

Birthday cards are wonderful things. They help you convey special thoughts and greetings to people you care about. However, there are times when greeting cards just seem too impersonal. And, these days, even greeting cards have become more expensive. If you want to give a birthday card to someone you care about and want it to be personal and affordable, then you can consider making one all on your own.

Making a Custom Birthday Card

You might think that it won't be easy to make your own birthday card, but it is. A card can be made as simple as folding over a piece of paper. You can use colored paper, or even plain white paper. You can even use recycled paper that is used as packing paper.

If you want something that has a lovely picture at the front, you can consider buying those blank birthday cards available in stores. Or you can use stationery.

Writing Your Special Birthday Card Message

Never forget to write the date on the upper right corner as this allows your loved one to remember when you gave the card.
If you are giving a birthday card to someone you work with or someone you do not know that well, you can write a simple birthday related joke or funny poems in the card. Or if it is a more formal card, just write a simple birthday wish. If the recipient is someone very close to you, then you can write about what that person means to you.

You can try writing an original birthday poem. You can write one that is funny or more lyrical. Just make sure you keep your writing appropriate for the age of the recipient.

If you are not so keen on writing original poems, then you can try scouring the internet for birthday poems, quotations and wishes. There are thousands of sites that offer them. Just remember to choose ones that are not too common and choose ones that convey your feelings for the recipient. Copy these on your card and then write a line or two that is original and from your heart.

Jazz it Up

You can make your birthday greetings more unique by making decorations on it. You can use anything from colored pens to sparkles. Even nail polish can be used to make artsy squiggles and designs. If you doubt your skills in art, you can simply stick on those lovely sparkly stars and hearts that can be bought from any store. You can paste on a dried flower or colorful buttons. Even pieces of cut out colored paper will do.

You can write the evergreen "Happy Birthday" or "On Your Birthday" on the front of the card using watercolor, crayons, colored pens, nail polish or even acrylic poster paint. If you do not think your handwriting is up to scratch, you can make a light pencil tracing first and then write on top of that so you can keep your writing even and legible.

If you are still not too keen on writing it all by hand, you can print it out via computer. Just make sure you sign your name by hand and write a simple "happy birthday" using your own handwriting to give it a personal touch.
