Finding The Suitable Personal Trainer

Trying to lose weight? Want to build muscle and get a healthier life? Approaching a personal fitness trainer can be the first step towards the right direction. He will assess your present fitness level, help you figure out realistic goals and also keep you motivated. However, with so many gyms and trainers available today, choosing the right one may prove to be a little confusing.

Deciding upon the Right Personal Trainer: Things to Look for

When choosing a personal fitness trainer, look for the following things:

1.Certification and Education: Look at the personal trainers certifications and his educational qualifications. They must have knowledge about the human anatomy, kinesiology, exercise physiology and first aid, so that the trainer can push you towards your goals safely. Check whether the fitness trainer is certified by organizations such as the American Council on Exercise (ACE), American College of Sports Medicine (ASCM), National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).

2.Experience: Enquire about the fitness trainers experience. Look for a fitness trainer who has prior experience in training people with similar goals as yours. If you have are trying to lose weight, make sure your fitness trainer is knowledgeable in that area, if you want to train for a marathon, you must look for a coach who is an active runner himself and has trained other runners.

3.References: Ask the personal trainer to provide you with phone numbers and names of clients he has worked with previously. Enquire about their experience with these trainers. You could even ask your friends for recommendations. Watch these trainers at work and make a note of how well they demonstrate exercises.

4.Special Conditions: If you are under medical supervision or have a special medical condition (such as an injury, heart problems, diabetes, pregnancy etc.) ensure that you look for a trainer who is knowledgeable in that particular area.

5.CPR: Your personal fitness trainer should also have an updated CPR certification and should have knowledge about first aid.

6.Good Listener: Your personal trainer should be a good listener so that he can properly understand what goals you are trying to achieve. A good fitness trainer will be focused on you and help you to set up a workout program which meets your requirements and train you to exercise in the right way.
