Finding Plastic Or Used Moving Boxes

By:

Moving can be overwhelming and costly at the same time. Regardless of financial status, most people would cut down on their moving expenses as much as possible. Being economical as far as materials used will go a long way towards keeping costs down. One of the most expensive parts of the moving process is purchasing moving boxes. Almost all your items will be packed into boxes, with the only exception being big, heavy items such as furniture.

Green moving companies are growing in numbers that provide several alternatives for packing your items. Some of them will offer the opportunity to buy new or used boxes, or rent them. Some moving companies located in larger cities throughout the U.S have joined forces with green moving box services in order to provide plastic moving boxes for those who want a more eco-friendly alternative. These boxes are actually made completely with recycled plastic, and are stronger and more durable than cardboard. This means that your belongings will be better protected while traveling from your current home to your new home. Plastic boxes negate the need for wardrobe boxes because of their sturdiness.

While cardboard is still a good option, especially if you order new ones from a company, they are not quite as strong and are still prone to being crushed. Boxes will be stacked on top of one another, and there is a chance that one could will cave in and damage your items. If using cardboard, be sure that you package your items well with packing paper, bubble wrap, and styrofoam popcorn to fill in the gaps.

If you aren't interested in buying or renting moving boxes, then you have some choices. However, it will require more work on your end. Some places do have boxes that they don't have any use for, and would be more than willing to hand them over to you. You can first check with neighbors or anyone you know that moved recently to see if they have some boxes on hand. Grocery stores and department may have boxes that came in from shipping. With grocery boxes in particular, keep in mind that food has been transported in them. They may contain bacterial, bugs, or mold. Also, they might not be very strong or even have some damage to them. This means that your items may be exposed to unwanted materials, or not be adequately protected during the move.
