Finding Free Car Insurance Quotes

Finding Free Car Insurance Quotes

By:

As anyone who has ever looked for car insurance knows, all quotes are free, so finding free car insurance quotes is not a problem. However, knowing how to interpret the quotes is where you might find yourself running into problems.

Of course, as they say, you get what you pay for, and when it comes to free insurance quotes, the same principle applies. You aren't paying, and the quotes might be meaningless.

When you start getting quotes, one important factor needs to be remembered: you need to hand over your social security number and your drivers license number in order to get a quote that will be anything close to your final premium should you decide to buy that particular policy.

Many insurance companies don't even want to give you a quote unless you provide this information simply because without it, the quote could indeed be meaningless. Premiums are based heavily on your credit history and your driving record and many times a caller who is asking for a quote thinks that by lying about his credit or driving record no one will find out. They will. And when they do, that quote might even triple!

Be careful about getting 'free quotes' online. Since all quotes are free anyway, this type of advertisement frequently ends up dumping all sorts of adware and malware on your computer once you finish putting in your information. Watch your junk mail go crazy with auto insurance spam emails!

If you do want to get some quotes online, use companies you are familiar with ' Geico, Progressive, etc. If you find a website you aren't familiar with, pass it by. It doesn't necessarily mean it's a questionable company to deal with, but when it comes to something like getting car insurance quotes that are relevant to your actual situation, it's better to stick to known brands to start with.

Occasionally you might even get a piece of junk mail from a car insurance company giving you a quote you haven't asked for. This might sound like a good idea, but it's not. In order to provide this quote they have paid to access your driving history and your credit report. Even a soft hit on your credit report (an inquiry that was not initiated by you) can hurt your FICO. Don't waste your time doing business with a company who is already willing to damage your financial picture!
