Finding A Medical Assistant Externship

By:

The BLS has stated that one of the expected fastest growing industries and jobs is medical assisting. The growth is expected to increase faster than normal all the way through the year 2016, and therefore this has become a popular field for students to get involved in. The increases is currently at 35% and there are now more and more training programs that are getting students trained and prepared for this lucrative and rewarding industry. There are many community colleges as well as vocational colleges where you can receive training for this career path. This is a great way to get your feet in the field of healthcare, and while many choose to continue on, many also choose to remain a MA. Before you are eligible for work, you will need to do an externship which is on the job training.

Before you begin looking for an externship you should look into what the externship requirements are. You can find this out from your professor or instructor. You should also determine what kind of time you have to dedicate to it each week as well as how many hours are going to be required from you. You need to find out who your externship instructor is as well. Once you have figured all of this out you can begin looking for a facility to begin.

You should talk to your instructor as they may have a list of locations that you can get in touch with about your externship. These locations are made up of new locations as well as locations that have been used for previous students. You can get the list from them and see what facilities are located in your area.

Get in touch with doctor offices as well as other medical facilities that are located in your area. According to the BLS, a majority of all MA's are going to be working in a doctor office and therefore this is going to be one of the recommended places to begin. You should begin with the list your instructor gave you and look at all the doctor offices that are on there. These doctor offices are more likely to say yes as they have sponsored previous students before. However, you can take it upon yourself to call other doctors and see if they would be willing to let you do your externship there.

You can get in touch with local non-profit organizations. There are many clinics that are for low income families and these are always a great place as well. They will likely have some sort of externship that you can take part in and this also can help them with any shortage they may have.

Finding a medical assisting externship is as easy as calling around doctor offices and going by what your instructor says. These externships are going to give you some type of experience and will help prepare you for the medical field as a MA. They are designed to help you learn necessary skills as well.
