Finding: American Females Dont Mind Picking Up The Tab

Jobless? Dont let it deter you from asking out that pretty girl you met at a party. A 2011 study of American singles dating trends show that 1 out of 2 American singles are okay with dating someone who is unemployed as long as they find you interesting (read: good looks coupled with cool personality).

Even the prospect of paying the bill after the date should not give you panic attacks as more than likely, shell gladly pay for that, too. According to the survey, a mere 19 percent of the respondents think picking up the tab should be the sole responsibility of the men, after all, this is the modern times. An even surprising 87 percent of the women said they wouldnt mind shouldering the bills if the guy has a good reason why he cant pay.

Commissioned by popular singles dating service Match.com, the survey looks into how money factors in todays American dating scene. The results might give unemployed men who lacked the confidence to venture into dating because they cant afford to take the girls to posh restaurants.

The initial welcome appears to have an expiry date, however. The men had better get employed soon if theyre thinking of taking the relationship to the next level. Sixty-six percent of the female respondents said they dont fancy seeing their husbands wearing the apron and taking care of the kids while theyre at work. That means, the husband is still expected to be the breadwinner of the family.

Launched online in 1995, Match-com now boasts of over 20 million members. This years survey provides an interesting insight into how the American dating landscape has changed over the years. Whereas women of old were more particular about the mens financial stability, modern women are now more liberal toward money matters while still remaining adamant against reversal of roles in the home. When it comes to gender equality, however, both sexes (over 80 percent) said household chores should no longer be left under the care of the wife alone. It appears the men dont mind cooking, scrubbing the floors and changing the babys diaper from time to time.

Match.coms 2011 online dating survey also revealed that modern American women tend to need more autonomy within the relationship than their partners. American female singles, for instance, would still want to have regular night-outs with their friends but the husbands are not allowed to tag along.

The respondents were comprised of 5,200 male and female aged 21-65. MarketTools conducted the survey with the help of social historian Stephanie Coontz, biological anthropologist Dr. Helen Fisher, evolutionary biologist Justin Garcia, and the Institute for Evolutionary Studies at Binghamton University.
