Find What You Are Looking For On A Summer Get Away Vacation In Blue Mountain

On a summer get away vacation in Blue Mountain, visitors get to see that there is more to the resort than skiing. Blue Mountain is located in Ontario, Canada in a section of the Niagra Escarpment. It is one of the busiest ski resorts in Canada, falling behind only Whistler and Mont Tremblant.

Blue Mountain development began in 1941. It began as a partnership between two men, Jozo Weider and Peter Campbell. Weider was a native of what is now known as Slovakia. He moved his family to Canada in 1939 as World War II was beginning in Europe. In Canada, he found work as a ski instructor. Peter Campbell was a ski area developer.

The start of the resort was a humble one. The Weiders lived on a farm in the foothills of the mountain and began clearing trails and farming the land. One lift was constructed for three runs, "Granny", "Schuss", and "Kandahar".

The resort grew over the course of the 1940s and 1950s with more lifts being constructed and more hills opening. The original barn was converted into a day lodge for skiers. The 1960s brought with them increased growth and development. An inn was opened to allow for multi day ski trips.

The 1970s saw major expansion as well as the death of founder, Jozo Weider. Weider's son and son-in-law took control and saw the resort through a decade of added and improved facilities. During this time, a mini bobsled track was opened to provide a summertime attraction. This ride was in operation until the late 1990s.

Construction, expansion and development have continued through the present. Night skiing has been added along with a village at the base of the mountain. More and more lifts are needed to accommodate the continuously growing number of visitors.

The green season is as exciting as the winter at this Ontario resort. A broad range of recreational activities are offered along with great shopping, dining and gorgeous, scenic views. Golfing, tennis, biking and more warm weather offerings are all on tap.

Golfers can challenge themselves at the popular Monterra Golf. It is a traditional links course designed by Tom McBroom with razorback mounding, creeks, ravines and seven lakes. There is also a full service shop, places to eat and a practice area.

Bikers of all levels will find a trail to fit their needs. Gentle terrain can be found for the beginner or those who want to enjoy the scenery as they ride. Thrill seekers will find fast, downhill trails. Lessons and rentals are available for visitors.

Children are welcomed at the resort with a full line of programming just for them. Adventure Camps keep the kids moving and having fun all day. Kids can improve their skills at one of the Tennis Camps or take a dip in one of the pools.

A summer get away vacation in Blue Mountain can be as relaxed or as active as the guest chooses. Trails, golf courses and tennis courses are ready to accommodate an action packed trip. Relaxation is waiting at the spa, the beach and the pool.
