The Origin of the White Wedding Dress

The English Queen Victoria is credited for having introduced the white wedding dress when she wore one on her wedding day to Prince Albert in 1840, since her wedding, the white wedding dress was widely adopted and became popular. Prior to that famous wedding that influenced the fashion choice of color white, brides wore different colors.

In contemporary weddings, white is a symbol of purity, virginity and innocence and as a neutral color, white wedding dresses compliment wedding decorations, adornments, grooms outfit as well as the bridesmaids dresses. Just as white is loved by the people in the Western civilizations, those in the eastern countries consider white the color of death, meaning it's frowned upon when it comes to weddings.

Blue Wedding Dress

Prior to 1840 & the marriage of Queen Victoria, the traditional color of choice was blue, then blue was the symbol of everything that white represents today. In the modern world blue as a color is associated with tranquility, faithfulness and serenity. Blue is also associated with water, this means that blue wedding dresses are good when having a beach wedding.

Pink and Ivory

Ivory wedding dress is very close to white dresses and this has made it popular. Ivory wedding dress is often preferred by people doing second marriages as well as those people whose complexion matches ivory better than white.

Pink bridal gowns are fast becoming popular and following ivory and pink closely, pink as a color is a symbol of fidelity, love, innocence and is uniquely feminine. Pink is the perfect color choice for advocates of femininity and all things beautiful and pretty. Pink has grown in popularity as the color of choice for Valentine day weddings.

Red and Black

Red has since time immemorial been associated with the red light district profession, on the contrary, a red wedding dress could as well represent love and power, in the Orient and especially China, red is considered a good luck color and in India it's the color of purity. Red oozes boldness and this is the reason it's has been favored for Christmas weddings.

In the Western world black is the color of death, however, black can represent sophistication, elegance and class. Black color can also be formal, and sexy and it's a good color for wedding guests to wear. A black wedding dress is for the daring and bold bride

Green, Purple, Wedding Dress

Green and purple wedding dresses were popular in the medieval time. They were especially loved by the rich because the color represented nobility and power. In modern times, green is closely associated with matters environment which makes it suitable for a wedding dress. Purple is the color of spirituality and creativity.
