Building a profitable Internet business is easy as long as you understand one thing. Planning is the key to success. There is very little in this life that you can't accomplish as long as you have a system in place and the right set of actions to follow. Here's a four-step system for building a profitable business for you to follow.

1. Decide what you want to do

The main problem that people have when they decide to make money online is "how" they will make that money. The choices are endless. You might decide to promote affiliate offers, or have Adsense adverts on your website, or you might like to create your own product, or even run an eBay business. The main reason that people fail to make any money is because they try to do too many of these things at once, and never really master any of it.

My recommendation is to pick a business model and stick to it. Once you've mastered that model and it is making money for you then feel free to move into another business model, but when you start out you need to just pick one model.

2. Create a weekly action plan

When you have decided how you are going to make money online you then need to create yourself a schedule of activities that you need to complete.

Decide how many hours each day you want to dedicate to your online business and then make a list of activities that you need to do. It helps to put similar activities together and then split them out over the week. You might decide to spend Mondays adding content to your website, Tuesdays managing your list, Wednesdays generating traffic and Thursdays optimising your sales page.

3. Reward yourself for staying on schedule

The important thing about your schedule is not how long you spend pulling it together, but rather that you actually take the actions that you have scheduled for yourself. Be realistic with your deadlines and make sure you have ample time to complete each and every activity.

Then when your work is done celebrate your success. You might treat yourself to a walk in the park when you've finished that day's activities, or if you complete all of the activities in a week you could take your partner out to dinner. Just take the time to do something to reward yourself for your hard work and dedication.

4. Never stop learning

As you spend more time working on your prospects lists, generating traffic and optimising your sales page you will want to learn ways to tweak and improve your methods.

Visit forums, read articles, download reports, do what ever it is you have to do to just keep learning. Once you've mastered the basics it's time to learn how to generate results more quickly, how to automate your processes and how to get more accomplished in less time.

Don't forget, the key to running a successful online list is to dedicate your efforts to one business model at a time, and to create a schedule and stick to it.
