Financial Aid For Cosmetology Colleges

By:

Contrary to popular opinion cosmetology has nothing to do with the study of outer space or planets. It is, however, the study all hair, makeup, skin and all things beautiful! If working in a salon is something you have dreamt about for years then you should be looking at cosmetology colleges.

Schools differ according to schedules. Some vocational high schools will provide cosmetology courses to their students as part of the normal daily studies. When they graduate from high school they are eligible to take the state's licensing exam in order to begin working in the field of cosmetology.

These same high schools, because they are already equipped with the appropriate technology, teachers, and work areas, will offer classes as part of adult education courses. These courses are usually held in the evenings on a part-time basis. Although it does take longer to finish the coursework and graduate, students will take the same modules and learn from the exact same books.

Most states do not have any prerequisites in order to attend cosmetology classes. You don't even have to be a high school graduate. However when you do graduate from your cosmetology school you must be able to pass state licensing exam.

Fifteen hundred hours might seem like a long time but in actuality many students who graduate are totally unprepared for the real work in a salon. Most customers who frequent high end salons refuse to have these inexperienced individuals working on them.

There are some schools that allow you to study online. Before committing to this type of education you should make a double sure that the school is accredited; most likely it is not. Since hands on labs are an integral part of your education it is obviously necessary for you to have access to all the tools and technology that students need to practice on. It's one thing to do all your studying in the book work, but it's quite another if you are not shown the proper way to find your guide line when you are cutting or setting a roller set for a backwards flip.

Only accredited schools are allowed to send their graduates for the state licensing exams. It would be a shame to believe that you have just graduated from a cosmetology college only to find out you are not able to even take your boards.
